Sad Day For Local Pubs – Brand X Bites the Dust
If there’s one thing we like here at The Niche Players, it’s cheap booze. But if there is a second thing we like, it’s local publications – they provide the type of coverage that small (yet thriving) operations like The Niche Players live and die on. So it is with great remorse that we found out that Brand X, the weekly food/arts/culture paper put out by the Los Angeles Times for the last several years, has ceased to exist as of July 8. Thankfully, the Times Community News (TCN) is going to continue to expand its local coverage in several other areas throughout LA, showing a legitimate concern to find the right mix of broad city-wide coverage and the type of hyper-local features that made Brand X so desirable to its small yet devoted fan base.
TNP Interview: Rory Scovel
We had the opportunity to sit down and chat with Rory Scovel earlier this week before he performed at the TNP 8 Ball Comedy Show. Listen in as he talks about being on Conan, how he approaches comedy, and tips for aspiring stand-uppers.
